Welcome to our culinary tour of this fascinating region of Central Italy. With many sites and traditions dating back centuries to Etruscan times, Nikki Booth will be introducing you to her second home and sharing her passion for food whilst offering a unique insight into the produce of this often overlooked part of the country.

Our base will be Orvieto, a mediaeval town of ultimate charm and character, built on a volcanic massif. From here we be exploring some of the local area during the day and learning how to work with it’s ingredients. Evenings will be spent enjoying the diversity of some of the best epicurean destinations in the town, gaining an understanding of how entertaining combines with food in this part of Italy.

Our cooking course is based at CIRULLI, a state of the art winery established in idyllic and typical Umbrian countryside, a short distance from the town. CIRULLI produces a range of fine wines as well as olive oil. and our time on the estate will include much contact with their products!

Our Itinerary:

Day one, Monday (luneda)

Arrive under own arrangements in Orvieto and check in at the Hotel Duono from 2 in the afternoon.

Meet at Bar Clandestine on the Corso Cavour at 18hrs30.

On to dinner at Del Moro.

Day two, Tuesday (martedi)

Depart after breakfast for CIRULLI and an introduction to our culinary home for the week. A cellar tour precedes the demonstration and hands-on participation in preparing our antipasti lunch.

After lunch, return to Orvieto and join the locals in one of the great mediterranean traditions; an afternoon siesta.

Meet at Bar Barrique for aperitivo and evening la passagata, with dinner at La Pergola.

Day three, Wednesday (mercoledi)

A morning of bread making and creating simple accompaniments to pasta with pleanty of ingredient contact.

Later, meet at La Magnolia and on to Antica di Rupa, a stylish family run restaurant.

Day four, Thursday (giovedi)

We visit the travelling market in Piazza del Popola. Calling in at the town twice weekly with an abundance of fresh produce and great bargains, we just have time to pick up a few extras for lunch before heading out to join Nikki.

Preparing the perfect risotto is today’s focus.

The evening is free for you to explore Orvieto, or if you preferred you are most welcome to join Nikki and her team for an informal supper.

Day five, Friday (venerdi)

Dessers, dolce occupy our last day in the kitchen. Nikki shows us some fabulous treats, and we try out the recipes for ourselves before enjoying a lazy lunch.

For our farewell evening we meet at Bar Clandestine, and follow with dinner at Il Coco, Nikki’s favourite restaurant in the town, serving typical authentic Umbrian food.

Day six, Saturday (sabato)

After breakfast, check out and store your bags at the Hotel Duomo. The market is back today and there is plenty of time this morning to pay a visit, as well as catch any of the other sites of Interest to you. Join Nikki and her team for a last glass of Prosecco before you leave the town

Other Excursions:

During our stay, we will also visit DECUGNANO DEI BARBI, a winery situated nearby in the old production zone of Orvieto Classico. Set beautifully on a hill in the Umbria countryside, we will be treated to a unique tasting of their premium wines which takes place in the old estate chapel.

There are many other possibilities for visits to places of interest nearby; many of these involve wine and olive oil. If time permits, we will be very happy to arrange for these once put to a popular group vote.

The town of Orvieto itself has intriguing historical sites worth exploring for those who are interested. We will provide information of these as well as assistance with arrangements.

The charge, inclusive of shared double or twin accommodation and all arrangements detailed above is E1750. A single supplement of E300 is applicable. Accommodation is at the Hotel Duomo www.orvietohotelduomo.com at a preferential rate negotiated by Nikki. Any alternative accommodation requirements will be subject to rate adjustments as quited by the provider.

A maximum number of 10 participants will be accepted for each course. In order for the course to run, we will require a minimum of 7 confirmed bookings.

Airfares and travel Orvieto are not included, transport daily to support our itinerary is provided.
